A Captain Nemo origin story

Here's a first look at the Jules Verne-inspired series, Nautilus

Back in 2021 at the height of the streaming wars, Disney announced that it was adapting a science fiction classic: Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This particular take, Nautilus, would follow the origins of Captain Nemo, an Indian Prince who invented a futuristic submarine and ruled the depths, working to fight against the British Empire. The novel follows Professor Pierre Aronnax, a scientist who was captured by Nemo and taken aboard the submarine.

The series went into production in 2022, and when Disney started slashing its catalog to cut costs, it also dumped Nautilus. AMC ended up snagging it a month later, with Prime Video streaming it in the UK. Now, our first look at the show comes from Prime Video UK, which launched a trailer for the show earlier today.

Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery) plays Captain Nemo, who steals the Nautilus and goes on a vendetta against the East India Trading Company and British Empire. It looks like a lot of fun, with a real "adventure of the week" vibe to it. The show's slated to begin streaming in the UK on October 25th, but I haven't been able to find when it'll debut here in the US.
