About Me
If we’re meeting for the first time: I’m Andrew Liptak, a writer and journalist who’s spent the last decade writing about science fiction, military history, popular culture, and technology.
I’m the author of Cosplay: A History: The Builders, Fans, and Makers Who Bring Your Favorite Stories to Life (Saga Press, 2022) I co-edited War Stories: New Military Science Fiction with Jaym Gates (Apex Book Company, 2014).
I've worked as a journalist covering science fiction, entertainment, science, technology, and culture, and I’ve written for places like Clarkesworld Magazine, Gizmodo, io9, Kirkus Reviews, Lifehacker, Slate, Tor.com, VentureBeat, The Verge, and others. I'm currently the PR & Guest Services Coordinator for the Vermont Historical Society.
This Newsletter
This newsletter grew out of my work as a reporter, and my goal is to help you make sense of the intersection between science fiction and the stories we love and how they help us understand the world we live in. It's been featured in The Washington Post and Vulture, and has been reprinted in places like Slate and Lifehacker.
This newsletter includes everything from monthly book lists to reviews, to commentaries, news updates, and quite a bit more. You can typically expect one or two pieces a week, with paid subscribers getting additional stories that I catch during the week.
You can also expect an end-of-the-week roundup that covers everything that went up on the site, news and other updates that took place in the last seven days. Supporting subscribers also have access to a TO Slack channel, where I drop news links and generally chat about what's going on in the world.
I’d love to get to know you a bit better, as you’ll get this newsletter from me on a somewhat regular basis. If you wouldn’t mind emailing me: what got you interested in this newsletter, and what is it that you’re interested in reading about when it comes to science fiction and writing? I want to make sure that it’s a relevant resource and that it remains interesting.
